ANASTACIA STUBBS (Class of 2012 Valedictorian)

Today is indeed a wonderful day, a celebratory day for the class of 2012, signifying the end of one chapter of our lives and the beginning of another; it is a day also to commemorate our many accomplishments as a class. Propelled by our school theme: 'Creating a culture of excellence,' the graduating class of 2012 was fully cognoscente that mediocrity and failure were not an option and our Principal Mrs. Shona Knowles reminded us of this ever so often. We were often told by her that excellence is a habit, a way of life. We as a graduating class has been nurtured in an institution that seeks to instill excellence in its students, and we will endeavor to excel in every facet of our lives and be the best that we can possibly be whatever our station in life maybe.

Ladies and gentlemen, in keeping with our school theme, 'Creating a culture of excellence,' I would like to use the supernova as a metaphor to describe our graduating class. What you may ask is a supernova? (say with passion) It is a harmonious explosion of iridescent colors and pure energy that outshines the rest in all its glorious beauty, sometimes as bright as the sun. This metaphor aptly describes our graduating class, comprising of many effervescent personalities. From Fieasha Johnson who never loses sight of her goals, Devereaux always optimistic and never fails to soothe our hearts with his melodious voice, Leahthe social butterfly who always bring mirth to any situation, to Khalid Ross whose sense of humor can never be ignored.

What can I say about the teachers of Aquinas? Our teachers have been most instrumental in our lives and we are indeed grateful. I cannot resist the temptation however, of not mentioning a few of them. Senora Ali-Gibson is a teacher whose eyes would pierce through you and make Swiss cheese out of you. At one point I was so afraid to be in her class, but being a Spanish student I did not have a choice! When I got to know Senora, I found her to be una profesora muy magnifica. Translated this means, Senora is an awesome teacher! Mrs. Bain who helped me to overcome some of my deficiencies in English, enabling me to enter the world the world of AP English with Mrs. Mott, who was like a consummate English Professor. Coach Irving, your lengthy anecdotes and philosophical lessons will never be forgotten. Also, we will always remember Mr. Francis and his creative approach to teaching Math.

My fellow graduates, we have successfully reached a significant milestone in our lives, however, we cannot rest on our laurels. As we prepare to take on new challenges, we must continue to create a culture of excellence and let this be our guiding mantra in our future endeavors. Like the radiant supernova, let us emit our positive energy to make our Bahamaland a better place, making an indelible impression for those who follow. Congratulations graduates of 2012 and to one and all a pleasant rest of the day.
